Sometimes I hear people complain that December 25th isn’t really the date of Jesus’ birth. It’s just the date that was used to celebrate the Winter Solstice. Or someone wanted to rebrand some other holiday for Christianity.
You know what? I don’t think it matters.
Yes, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The date is not important. The birth is what’s important. God reached down to humanity and became a man. He showed his love for us by giving us a gift that is beyond anything that we can give each other. Don’t get caught up in the superficialities of the season. Remember the gift that was given to you two thousand years ago.

God became a person on December 25th, 4 BC. You can use that to shut up the legalists. He became flesh 6 months after John his cousin was concieved June 23-25. So Decemeber 25th is probably very close. Which puts his “birthday” around Sept 20. But alas, God said Mary was with Child. So much for it just being a fetus.
