How the RIAA Stole Web Radio (Audio Version MP3 2:25 700kb) read by Michael and Laura Clark.
Everyone on the web
Liked web radio a lot.
But the RIAA who lived
In Fantasy land did not.
The artists don’t quite understand,
The impact of web radio throughout the land.
The RIAA hated web radio,
Every single station.
Now please don’t ask why,
Maybe they need a vacation
It could be that they’re feeling blue.
It could be, perhaps, a pebble in their shoe.
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that their heart is two sizes too small.
But whatever the reason,
Their heart or their shoe,
They stood there hating web radio,
On March two.
Staring down from their lair, knowing sometime soon
Someone on the web would hear a free tune
For they knew everyone who heard a song
Would not pay for it, and that would be wrong.
“And they’re dancing.” They snarled with a sneer.
“They won’t give us our money, that is our fear.”
Then they growled, “We must protect our bands.
We must find a way to keep web radio out of their hands.”
For sometime soon they knew…
They’d listen and dance and sing
Then they thought “We must stop the whole thing.
Why for three years I’ve put up with it now,
I must stop web radio from happening. But how?”
Then they got an idea!
An awful idea!
THE RIAA
GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!
They knew just what to do, they called up Congress
If this plan should work, we’ll give them a kiss.
And they plotted and schemed, “We’ll make the broadcaster pay.
That seems quite fair. What else could they say?
Then they slithered and slunk, with a smile most cruel
We’ll shut them down, that would be cool.
We want all of their cash, what will they pay?
It must be a lot, how about per play?
No more country, rock, comedy or pop
Farewell web radio, gone is all bop.
And what happened then,
Well on the web they say,
That the RIAA’s small heart
Shrank three sizes that day.
