This site is financially supported primarily through the ads I run on the site, although I do accept donations as well. It came to my attention earlier today that some of the ads were deceptive, by encouraging you to click on the ad in order to “listen” to my Christmas music stations. I have blocked those ads and will try to track which ads appear on the site more closely in the future. But since there are thousands of different ads that may appear, it may be a losing battle. I apologize if you were deceived and will try to do better in the future.

To listen to any of my stations, just click on the link over on the right edge of the screen, under the “Listen” heading. You can also use iTunes (the Internet section, then the religious category).

Thanks for listening!

Musician Zoë Keating wrote a nice blog post earlier this week detailing her views of Internet radio music licensing. I’m not going to go into all of the gory details myself, but one thing Ms. Keating says is that she’d like to get the data about her songs that are played. That’s actually a fairly legitimate request.

For my Christmas Music 24/7 stations, I have to send a report each month to SoundExchange with a complete census of what songs I played when, with how many listeners each had. I already have the basic information she’s looking for. If I ever play any of her music, I’ll gladly share that info with her.

And for the rest of the artists out there that I play (over 1,250 different artists in August 2012), the offer stands for you as well. Just get in touch with me and we’ll get it worked out. (I hope I don’t get 1,250 emails in the next couple days asking for data!)

Hi everyone, I’d like to thank you for listening to Christmas Music 24/7 this year.

Hi everyone, I’d like to thank you for listening to Christmas Music 24/7 this year. I know there are many other stations and web sites you could use to listen to Christmas music, and I am very happy that you choose to spend some of your time listening to Christmas Music 24/7.

2011 and 2012 have been very difficult financially for me and my family. I am self-employed, and this site and one other are where I spend 90% of my working hours, but for only about half of my annual income. This year I simply haven’t had much gumption to work on the stations as the effort required is so disproportionate to the effort. I’ve also had some physical ailments that zapped some of my energy. I’m fine, but have had to adjust my lifestyle a bit. I think I am much healthier now than I was a year ago.

This season I have only added about 15 new albums to the various stations, and I have another six new CDs sitting here next to the computer. I’ll work on getting those evaluated and prepped for broadcast this coming weekend. I apologize for not maintaining the station and web site the way I have in past years. I will try to do better in 2013.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving break with your family and friends. Mike

I am adding a whole bunch of new music (55 CDs!) to the Christmas Music 24/7 stations. One thing I’ve noticed as I’m preparing the music for broadcast, many of the CDs from independent artists don’t have a label name or copyright year listed. It seems odd I know, but I must report the year of the song’s copyright, and the label name to SoundExchange when I send them my monthly report detailing all the music I’ve played.

So if you recently sent me a CD, and I write you asking for your label name, don’t be alarmed or upset. If you aren’t signed with a label yet, I can put your name, or your band’s name. That “label name” is how you’ll get your payment from Sound Exchange for your performances online. So whatever you choose, be consistent with all the stations you send your music.

Thanks to the donations and other support I’ve received this year, I have been able to launch a brand new station: Christmas Music 24/7 Orchestral/Classical. This station is playing Christmas music that is a bit more formal, generally full orchestras, or other instruments that you generally will associate with church, such as organs, handbells, or harp.

Yes, I am accepting donations to help pay for this rather time-consuming hobby/tiny small business of mine. And as you can see, it is totally worth it, as once the basic expenses of the station are paid for, I expand, allowing for more people to be able to tune in. Thank you very much for your support.

Looking at the statistics generated by Live365, the company that handles the technical end of webcasting, three of my stations are in the top 100. The Traditional Christmas music station is the #1 most popular station; the Jazz/Instrumental station is #2, and the country music station is #87. This is the third year in a row that I’ve been the #1 and #2 station of the thousands of stations at Live365. It’s a lot of work, and I really enjoy doing it. It wouldn’t be possible without the listeners choosing to spend their time and attention listening; without the great staff at Live365; or without the artists and groups that send me music to play. Many thanks to all of you.

(Kicky?!? Sorry about that, but I needed a “k” word.)
